Your Journey
Through Time
Embark on a captivating 90-minute journey through one of the world's most extraordinary collections of ancient civilizations.
Step into the British Museum on a journey through some of the most powerful civilizations of the ancient world. We begin by looking at the museum itself, its striking classical architecture, and the story of how this world-famous institution came to house objects from across human history. From there, we move into Ancient Egypt, where the Rosetta Stone opens the door to the world of hieroglyphs, kingship, religion, and the beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife. Among statues, sacred imagery, and mummies, we explore how the Egyptians understood both life and eternity, and how the biblical figure Moses could fit into all of this. Before continuing eastward, we also stop to see the famous Gilgamesh Flood Tablet, which preserves the earliest known written version of the great flood story.
Our journey then continues eastward into the world of ancient Assyria, where monumental sculptures, royal city gates, and the famous lion hunt reliefs reveal the power, symbolism, and imperial ambition of one of history's greatest empires. Finally, we arrive in ancient Greece, where the sculptures of the Parthenon allow us to discuss mythology, religion, artistic achievement, and the enduring legacy of Athens. Throughout the tour, the aim is not simply to see famous objects, but to understand the people, ideas, and civilizations behind them through clear explanation and engaging storytelling.
